Eye of the Giant is a first person sandbox game where you play as a giant rock golem terrorizing a village and its inhabitants. You can destroy EVERYTHING, but how will the villagers react? Experience the destruction on oculus or PC.

This game was my first major game development experience, one of many major milestone as a developer and a student. It was my first exposure to 3D modeling in Blender and Unreal Engine as a game development tool. On top of the valuable technical experience I received, this project was my exposure to life at UCSC and was an essential catalyst behind my transfer decision.

I was asked to join the team of UCSC seniors by a longtime friend of mine who knew the caliber of my art skill and my expertise with Photoshop and digital software. I joined a team of twelve other talented individuals as a 2D generalist, providing assets for concept art and promotional art featured on social media. It was fun to think through possible concepts given the premise of the game. My ideas were heard and welcomed and I was delivering meaningful work.

This was also my first exposure to the scrum model and understanding agile work environments with every weekly sprint. In my free time, I decided to branch out and use this project as an opportunity to learn about areas in which I had no prior experience –– kind of a risky move with a team expecting assets weekly and loads of school related work also on my plate. I developed my texturing, UV mapping and unwrapping skill through this game.

Eye of the Giant went on to be nominated for several awards at the Sammy Awards that year, among which were Peer Choice, Best Visuals and Best Technical Design.
