This was our first attempt at using Unity. As the artistic lead, I drew the art assets and wrote the story, while Tima wrote the code.

Personally, this was my first experience understanding how to integrate art assets into Unity. I learnt about a couple of quirks in this process as I got a better feel for unity’s development environment, like how to match pixel sizes while maintaining proportions and practicing 2D pixel sprite animation.

Together we attempted to create game music, which was a fun and new learning experience. Not knowing of Unity’s UI capabilities, we also found some interesting workarounds from which we have since improved. I also learnt how invaluable story writing is as a guide to game development, particularly with motivating the direction of the game.

Appliance Escape

Build works on Mac or PC. Unity WebGL only works in firefox.

Movement                   ← and → arrow keys

Jump                           Spacebar

Special Ability             Left Shift

A sentient washing machine finds some new pals! Join him in his laundry-eating escapade. Pick from three different appliances to travel safely through this quick platformer. Each appliance has a slightly different behavior.

After this, I decided to try out Unity Monodevelop and its SDK capabilities. I recreated a boss level from the fantasy hack-n-slash action adventure, Hammerwatch. You can read more about that here.
